Abstract

Oftenly, Elementary School Students have wrong comprehension about Photosynthesis. One of the reason of this is caused by the teacher. As a prospective Elementary School teacher, university students are expected to teach the concept of Photosynthesis properly. This research aims to identify misconceptions about the concept of Photosynthesis occuring in Student of Elementary School Teacher candidates through two-tier diagnostic tests and diagnostic interviews. This study is a qualitative descriptive research, which describes the type of misconceptions that occured. Subjects in this study are students of Elementary School Teacher Education Program, University of Wijaya Kusuma Surabaya 1st semester academic year 2016-2017. The number of the subjects are 22 students. The results obtained are as follows: (1) There are misconceptions experienced by students about the concept of Photosynthesis. Conseption (understanding) of students is lowest on concept of Photosynthetic Process requires light 18,18%, while the highest conceptions is on product concept, results of Photosynthesis process, with percentage of 81,83%. (2) Source or cause misconceptions experienced by student come from student praconceptions and teaching materials. The conclusions of this research are two-tier diagnostic tests and diagnostic interviews can be used as a reference in identifying misconceptions on the concept of Photosynthesis.
